“Unserious and Ridiculous” Demands in Congress

“Unserious and Ridiculous” Demands in Congress

October 5, 2025

Democrats threaten government shutdown over Obamacare expansion.

The Maryland Freedom Caucus stands with President Trump and the House Freedom Caucus in opposing the “unserious and ridiculous” demands of the Congressional minority party to pass the continuing resolution to fund the government through December.

Just a few hours ago, President Trump agreed to a sit-down meeting with the House and Senate minority leaders to negotiate advancing a clean CR to keep the government from shutting down—avoiding the furlough of tens of thousands of Marylanders in the process. What are their demands? To continue the Biden-era COVID Obamacare subsidies, costing the American taxpayer $448 billion over the next ten years. These subsidies included removing income caps for tax credits to Americans making more than $500,000 and fully subsidizing 9 million additional healthcare plans (42% of all exchange enrollees).

But wait, there’s more. House and Senate Democrats are demanding $1 trillion in new spending for Affordable Care Act subsidies. Once the party against government shutdowns, the Democrats are now willing to send 2 million federal workers home over funding things like healthcare for illegal immigrants and transgender surgeries for anyone. President Trump rightfully called the meeting off for their “unserious and ridiculous demands”.

Call your representative and our two senators right now to tell them to put aside their “unserious and ridiculous” partisan demands and pass a clean CR.
