Annapolis, MD— The Maryland Freedom Caucus applauds President Donald J. Trump and the Department of Justice for halting Governor Wes Moore’s offshore wind scheme, a costly project that threatened Maryland’s economy, environment, and coastal communities. The decision to withdraw approval for the U.S. Wind project affirms what Marylanders have long known: offshore wind is a failed energy experiment that has never lived up to its promises.

Ocean City’s leaders and Maryland’s only Republican member of Congress, House Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris, MD, have been steadfast in warning against the dangers of offshore wind. They have been critical in exposing the true costs and in protecting local communities and the environment from an agenda-driven energy scam.

“The collapse of Governor Moore’s offshore wind project proves what we’ve been saying all along: it’s unreliable, unaffordable, and harmful to Maryland’s economy and environment,” said Delegate Ryan Nawrocki, Whip of the Maryland Freedom Caucus. “Families are already struggling with high energy costs, and this failed experiment would have only worsened things. Maryland needs real solutions for affordable and reliable energy, not reckless schemes that crumble under their own weight.”

Delegate Kathy Szeliga, Vice Chair of the Maryland Freedom Caucus, added, “For more than a decade, politicians ignored the will of Ocean City residents and visitors, pouring over $55 million into a failed offshore wind plan with nothing to show but broken promises. Offshore wind drains taxpayers and drives bills higher. It’s time to pull the plug and focus on proven energy solutions; keeping plants open, repowering with natural gas, and expanding nuclear power.”

The Maryland Freedom Caucus has repeatedly called for ending costly mandates, such as EmPOWER, keeping Maryland’s reliable plants open, repowering facilities with natural gas, and embracing nuclear energy as a Tier 1 option. The Trump administration’s decision validates this platform and offers a clear path forward, an energy strategy rooted in affordability, reliability, and common sense.
